Salt Chlorination, Explained

Continental Pool Engineering TeamNovember 14, 20255 min read

Salt chlorination generators convert dissolved salt into chlorine through electrolysis, producing a steady, lower-concentration dose rather than the peaks and troughs of manual dosing.

The water feels noticeably softer, and most owners report far less eye and skin irritation compared to traditionally dosed pools.

Running costs are typically lower over the equipment's lifespan, though the initial installation is a larger investment than manual dosing. We generally recommend it for owner-occupied residential pools with consistent year-round use.

Commercial and high-turnover pools still often pair salt chlorination with supplementary UV systems to maintain compliance at higher bather loads.
